Day Two Week Four; Mackinac Island Here We Come

Day two of week four - another moving day.  This morning was probably our best moving day experience of the trip so far.  Getting the Team ready to travel was not bad; getting the RV ready to travel worked well (experience matters); and, getting the van loaded on the tow dolly went well, too. Then, we had to stop to resupply.  Dale did the shopping while Patti visited the Vision Center to get her glasses adjusted.  Dale was finished, with only a few mistakes, before Patti was.  She was somewhat annoyed with the delay at the Vision Center, so Dale just went to the RV to put the groceries away.  Then, on to Starbucks - nice way to start the drive north.

We drove up I-39 / US 51 most of the way today.  US 51 goes right through downtown Carbondale IL.  Amazing.  Nice day for driving - sunny with a high temperature around 75 degrees.  Patti saw her first Fall Colors - Red and Orange.  Not a cloud in the sky.  It was a long day of driving - tomorrow even a bit longer.  Destination: Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel. We'll be there on Wednesday. After that, we'll be blowing in the wind.  There are many things we want to see, just no timeline.

Northern Wisconsin is a bit more rugged that the southern part of the state.  No Interstate Highway system up here yet.  Roads are a bit tough because of the harsh winters.  And lots of large hills or small mountains.  Didn't expect that.  We're thinking every state has an "outback," a few people close to nature.  We're there.  Patti took a walk this evening while Dale talked with his mother on the phone.  As she turned the corner on the path she was on, three deer were staring at her.  Awesome! We also saw a black squirrel.  We've heard they exist, but have only see red and gray squirrels.  Awesome!  Just before dinner, Patti built her first camp fire in 30 years.  She was very excited that she remembered how to do it, efficiently.  Awesome!

235 miles today.
